Senior Project Reflection

(1) Positive Statement

What are you most proud of in your 2-Hour Presentation and/or your senior project? Why?
What I am most proud of is the fact that I met the time required. I am also proud of the fact that even though I was nervous I was able to present with proper articulation and a strong voice. Throughout this year I have had trouble speaking in front of people but when it came to my two hour I was able to talk with ease.

(2) Questions to Consider

a.     What assessment would you give yourself on your 2-Hour Presentation (self-assessment)? Why?

AE            P            AP            CR            NC
I'm giving myself a P because I did meet the required time and my activity tied in to my answers and I didn't give no "no duhh" answers.

b.     What assessment would you give yourself on your overall senior project (self-assessment)? Why?

AE             P            AP            CR            NC
I am giving myself an AP for my overall senior project grade because I know that my research throughout the year wasn't the best and I did have some trouble throughout the year but I was able to bring it together in my two hour presentation.

(3) What worked for you in your senior project?
I think what worked for me was when my teacher helped me with my three column chart because it helped organize my evidence and research in a way that was presentable for my two hour, and my senior project in general.

(4) What didn’t work for you in your senior project?
I don't think that the research towers really worked because I never really used it I mostly used my WB when it came to looking for research that I could use for my two hour.

(5) Finding Value

How has the senior project been helpful to you in your future endeavors?   Be specific and use examples.
Well I have decided to actually continue my dream of becoming a nurse and I plan on taking some nursing classes during the fall.

Service Learning :D

Literal
I gave ogden the info :p

Interpretive
the most important thing I gained from my service learning would be to not let your emotions get in the way of your work. Throughout my time at San Dimas Community Hospital, I observed the nurses and how they reacted to the patient's case. They never showed emotion until after they left the room. They would always talk about it and talk about how they felt about the situation but when they were with the patient all they showed was kindness and care. Also, another thing I gained from my service learning is that you cant expect the patients to know what you are talking about. Most of the time when the nurses would tell the patient something, they wouldn't know what they are talking about and some of the nurses would get frustrated so they would ask other nurses to explain. I learned that nurses shouldn't let themselves get frustrated if they know that most of the patients won't understand what they mean. To add on, I learned that it is really important to prioritize the patients because sometimes they had a lot of patients but since there are only 9 beds in the ER, they had to choose which patients they were going to attend and which could wait a little longer. This was really important because if they chose the wrong person to attend first instead of one that really needed the attention, something could have happened to that patient.

Applied

My service learning helped me answer my EQ because it gave me one of my answers which is triage. Which like I said earlier, it is important in the ER to prioritize the patients by how severe their case is because some patients need the assistance more than others.

independent component

 (1) Write a description of what you plan on doing for your independent study component.
for my independent component I plan to do more service learning to complete the 30 hours.

(2) Describe in detail how you think your plan will meet the 30 hours work requirement.
I plan to do hours at San Dimas Community Hospital assisting the nurses in whatever I can.

(3) How does your independent study component relate to your EQ?
Well my independent component relates to my EQ because I will be working in the ER. It will help me get a taste of what goes on in the ER.

interview

1.) If you had to pick three answers to my EQ what would you say?
2.) What made you choose those?
Do the answers that you stated help you in any way?
3.) The answers that I have come up with are triage, intake and output, and the nursing process. What is your opinion of those three?

4.) Would you change either one or add something?
5.) Is there anything that stands out about these?

7.) What do you think is most important for an ER nurse?
8.) Is there anything in specific that helps you to be better?

10.) what helped you get through those struggles?

helping 2013

(1) What ideas do you have for your senior project and why?
-well I'm stuck between event planning or stage craft. Event planning because i have some experience with it and it might be easier to get service learning for it. Stage craft because i really like designing, its a passion i have and I've wanted to do that for a while. And plus they both have to do with design.
-well  if you really like it and you think you could find service learning for it then you should do it/
but like you really have to consider like the things you could do with it like well
i think it would be easier if you did event planning? do you know anyyy possible answers youd have for either
? i think you would be better off with event planning just because you'd have hook ups ahha
and you have had some experiences you know?see you'd have like some of your interviews done and stuff and if norma can help you get people youd be pretty much be set for your interviews probably service learning and are you in asb.

(2) What do you plan to do to complete the 10 hours of service learning (working with an expert) which is due prior to senior year starting?
-i plan on looking for someone who may have to do a wedding or any event and just go with them to help. If my mom ends up decorating for something imma go help her. I would have gone to help my mom with a wedding sat but i have to do another thing. so imma look for someone to help with any events
-ok thats smart  haha maybe you could ask norma also? maybe she can give you someones number or something you can contact and BAM you got your hours.

(3) What do you hope to see or expect to see when watching the class of 2012 present their two hour presentations?
-well i hope i can get some good ideas on how to make my 2hr presentation entertaining and not bore the people to death. i would also hope i can take notes on things that didnt work out to well in a presentation and things that made the people more engaged.
-ok thats a good idea(: i recommend going to normas too just so you get an idea of things you could do for your project if you do decide on doing your senior project on event planning(:

(4) What questions do they have about senior project?
-well probably just one right now. if i need help with anything on the project witch teacher seems to help the best? do u get wat im trying to ask. like if i have any problems who is the best to go to for help?
-purther.  he is thee best person to ask questions to..him and melogno but melogno is better for when you guys do the science experiment

Independent Component 2

Literal

I, Gabriela Reyes, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.
I completed 30 hours of service learning at San Dimas Community Hospital. I have been assisting nurses in what I am allowed to. I have been taking patients vital signs and recording their ECG strips. I have helped comfort the patients, I have also helped translate for some of the patients that had questions or needed assistance with something.

Interpretive
This represents 30 hours of work because like I said I have been assisting nurses in what I can.  I have had the opportunity to take patients vital signs and record their ECG strips. I have been shadowing nurses when they are attending their patients. By doing this I have been able to see what it's like in the ER on a daily basis.

Applied
This Independent Component has helped me with my answers for my EQ, what is most important for a nurse in an Emergency Room. Being able to be inside an ER has given me the opportunity to have a different perspective of how nurses actually deal with patients and what they see everyday. It has helped me break down my answers to make them more specific.

Independent Component 1

Literal
I, Gabriela, affirm that i completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work. I assisted the ER nurses in whatever i was able to do. I was allowed to take patients vitals after the nurses taught me. I spent most of my time cleaning the rooms restocking the equipment the nurses used like the bed linens, gowns, etc.

Interpretive
What I have done represents 30 hours of work because like I said I have assisted nurses with what i can do. I have taken patients vital signs and shadowed nurses in what they do on a daily basis.

Applied
This independent component has helped me answer my Essential Question because my EQ is what is most important for a nurse in an Emergency Room. By observing the nurses I have come with my three answers, concentration, personal health and triage. Being in an ER helps me experience what its like to be a nurse and see what types of situations they encounter.
